No Arctic Sea Ice Survives the Summer of 2013
Paul Beckwith, March 23, 2013: 'For the Record - I Do Not Think That Any Sea Ice Will Survive This Summer'
A University of Ottawa climatology PhD student and part-time professor went on record with 'total Arctic sea ice destruction in 2013.' The September minimum was 5.10 million square kilometres.

Plenty survived. NSIDC put the 2013 minimum, on September 13, at 5.10 million square kilometres - more than the record low of 2012.
Then vs Now
Promised: no Arctic sea ice surviving summer 2013
Arctic sea ice minimum extent, September 13, 2013 (as of 2013-09-13)
The fine print
He repeated it in June: 'Since then, I have become even more confident about my prediction of total Arctic sea ice destruction in 2013.' He wrote that it was based on his 'Ph.D. studies on abrupt climate change' and his work as 'part-time professor in climatology/meteorology at the University of Ottawa.'
